Doctor Watched Many of his Older Patients Decline; 5 Things They Did Wrong

Dr. Mitch Rice is a physician in north central Ohio. In this video, he lists 5 things that older people/boomers fail to act on/take into consideration, as they age.  I had already been considering buying a hand dynamometer (with a landmark birthday approaching in just days), so this video pushed me off the fence and I just ordered one. Grip strength is a good indicator of general health in older people. It has been connected to longevity. As we age, we suffer from sarcopenia (muscle loss/atrophy) and the grip is a very good gauge of where that muscle loss stands. Muscle is very important to maintain into older age because we depend on it not to fall. Muscle fiber is also important in many metabolic processes.

Related also to retaining muscle is the need to keep our protein intake up. Dr. Rice addresses this also. He includes references to medical studies under his video that support his suggestions. As people age, strength, balance, supplements and a sufficient amount of protein are all essential.
